I Believe I’ll Have Just A Bit More Randomness

* – I’m getting really sick and tired of the hoops you have to jump through to get a student loan deferred.

Belay that – I’m just sick and tired of being in debt, period.

* – here’s one man’s theory that it doesn’t matter whether it’s a Republican or a Democrat in the White House, the federal government should just stay the hell out of the housing market.

* – so, it’s not ok to wish a president’s policies to fail, but it’s ok to wish a president’s critic’s kidneys to fail, even as a joke?!

* I had another long trip to NY yesterday, and used the time in the company van to do some more movie watching….

          Mrs. Chili untintenionally reminded me that I had Syriana in my collection, so I gave that a whirl first. Bottom line after watching it? I’m not as smart as I thought I was (not that I considered myself a Mensa candidate or anything…), because I just didn’t get it. It’s about oil, yeah. CIA. Terrorists. Corrupt corporation CEOs. The US government willing to back one potential country leader over another even though the guy they’re backing is at best incompetent and at worst a scumbag just because he’s willing to sell his country’s oil to the US. Yeah, I get all that. I get the individual pieces. But how all those pieces tie together? That I don’t get.

          I had the time to watch a second movie, and decided to give Daniel Craig’s first go at James Bond, Casino Royale, a second shot. I had watched it once before, but it was a couple of years ago, and it was late at night so I had the volume down so as not to wake my wife or my son, so I think I missed quite a bit, because my initial impression of the flick was not favorable. I’m glad a gave it another try, because I found myself liking it quite a bit. Now I need to go rent Quantum of Solace

* – I also need to rent Traitor, Punisher: War Zone, Body of Lies, and Taken.

* – I’m going to see X-Men Origins: Wolverine tonight. I’ll let you know what I think of it asap.

* – this isn’t coming even remotely close to where I live that I know of, but if it ever does I have to go see it! It looks amazing!!!

  1. Okay, couple of things;

    One, I agree; Wanda Sykes threw a couple of stinkbombs. I think she was trying too hard and a lot of her schtick just wasn’t funny.

    Two, I haven’t seen Syriana yet. Mr. Chili and I are making our way through the X-Men trilogy (tonight we have the third lined up on TiVo; we have the first two on DVD). Don’t bother with Traitor; it was a TERRIBLE disappointment. I liked Taken, but not as much as I expected to. You want a great rental? Get yourself a copy of Bangkok Dangerous. Seriously. I’ve seen none of the others on your list, so I can’t say.

    We’re hoping to see Star Trek this weekend. Wish us luck.

    Are you coming to Mom’s party?

  2. I’ve heard good things about “Star Trek,” so I think you’ll be happy with the choice.

    “Wolverine” was pretty good, btw.

    “Syriana” is just deep. One of those George Clooney-Matt Damon “let’s be politically and socially aware and artsy”-type of films. It is by no means light entertainment.

    Cookiemaker, Little Man, and I will DEFINITELY be there for your mother’s party. Should we bring anything?
